I've just started getting really into citrus as I've been trying for many years and haven't been able to purchase plants. Sure seems Canada is just awful at it!

Anyways... I will be buying lime plants come april (and other citrus varieties)... but as of today, I attempted to plant my own key lime seeds! I'm using the baggy method, have the ziplocks bags on my monitor, looking all nice and toasty.

I've read they are of of the easiest citrus to grow from seed and well, I bought a bag of key limes and my god did they have seeds! I only used the biggest, fattest seeds. I think thats what I'm suposed to do. many were small and flat... I figured those wer the immature seeds

Now... just to wait for spouts and... to see if I can keep them alive. ooooh the excitment

But be sure to take care of those Catterpillars on the trees which will eat all the leaves, bcos i lost a big tree for that. :(

the insects are a reason why I'm *almost* deciding to keep my trees inside year round. My *sun room* of sorts gets HOT and FULL sun alllll day long. Huge windows. Why take them outside and risk bugs. yeck

The insect problem can be overcome. I'm pretty sure there are these little poison traps or something that you attach to you tree, and when insects come to munch, they are attracted to it, eat some of it, and die:D

So how are the seeds doing, citruscanuck? I am very curious - I feel like I have planted them! I guess it has been about 2 and a half weeks or something like that? I have no idea how long it takes for some tendrils of life to appear. Are you seeing anything so far?

My key limes have spouted, it'll be 4 weeks this friday. I posted about it in the link belong "my key limes have...."

Its WAY cool. some seeds making 2-5 baby seedlings. they are still very very small and very very slow growing. They have fairly long roots... some being 3 inches long. the plants are maybe 1/2 inch above the ground. I've planted each seedling into their own pot.. ok 2 seedlings per pot in case one died.

It is alll very exciting. I'll be taking several pictures of my baby seedlings tomorro. just got home from work and too sore to move everything around to get good pictures.

So check back tomorrow and I'll take several pics. Even try to get a picture of one of the whole plants, roots and all (pull it up so you can see.... its one I need to transplant anyways.

thanks for checking in on the baby seedlings. It really is SO exciting to start a fruit from seed and in just 2 years I could expect to see fruit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
