We got our calamondin about 6 months ago in the summer. We planned to bring it in, but it got colder one night than the weather man said it was suppose to about 2 weeks ago down to low 30's. We brought it in the next day. This week it's leaves started falling off... I trimmed off 2 branches that got "bit" with frost, and am still picking up leaves... BUT, it has tons of blooms on it and a few small green fruit. We have had a great crop this fall and really want to keep the plant. It is in a large pot in the kitchen now, infront of the sliding glass door.

Does anyone know if the leaves falling off are result of the frost and is the plant still healthy? Hint, the blooms came out in full force after we brought it in and every branch (and remaining leaves) are a beautiful green.

Thanks! moobootie

moobootie,
Welcome to the Forum,

Your tree is exibiting normal although not healthy behaviour. The tree is suffering from the lower light levels, lower humidity, and possibly overly wet soil. The frost probably didn't hurt the tree very much.

Make sure the tree does not stay "wet" for extended periods of time. Ctrus hate wet feet. Citrus will need less water in the wintertime as they are not growing as fast as during the warmer spring and summer.

You can place a small fan near the soil level to help it dry out. You can also run a humidifier to help with the humidity level.

What are the conditions inside where your tree is now? What is the temperature inside the house? Is the tree being exposed to direct sun (south window)?

Most winter problems for container citrus have to do with the temperature of the roots. If the roots are kept warm (mid 60s) you should have no problems.
