What are some of the reasons you would grow an orange tree? I mean, there are so many citrus fruits to choose from. Key limes and kumquats are so much easier to care for, so why an orange tree?

I personally would choose one because I love oranges and I want confidence that there are no chemicals. I guess everyone is probably thinking the same thing!

I'm going for an orange tree because I will already have a kumquat and a lemon and lime and limequat. I want a good variet. I'll also hopefully get a pomegrante and calamodin (sp)

So.. orange is just another variety for me. trying to buy as many as I can at one time... but getting my orange seperatly to get the variety I want.

Oranges are my favorite, and I know I will always love them.

Wow, you are quite the citrus tree canuck! What part of Canada do you live in? Have you checked out whether all your planned trees can survive given the variations in weather? I understand that orange trees are very cold-sensitive. Oh - are you the one who posted about oranges in containers? I guess you are planning on indoors cultivation then!

I dont have any trees yet. I get them next month. They will ALL be indoor plants. I'm in western canada, but up in teh mountains.. NO way in heck could they survive outside without a lot of work and expense. not to mention I rent where I live, refuse to plant trees only to leave tehm when I move

I can give you some reasons why I love to eat or grow orange trees. The rind of the orange has a tangy fragrance, which is made into a refreshing and mildly relaxing oil. It is used in the treatment of colds, constipation, dull skin, flatulence, flu, gum disease, mouth sores, slow digestion, and stress :)
