As mentioned in the first thread, grapefruits are often used as part of a diet plan to lose weight. I know that my mom tried it, but didn't have the discipline. Does anyone out there know anything about this or has anybody actually tried it? Does it actually work?
it would be incentive to acquire a taste for the fruit. Then I could grow my own tree and never have to buy food again...

its a fad, its just like the "any kid" diet. they even have a bacon diet, sausage diet, grapefruit, this or that. Its NOT healthy. its... just that a fad. You could lose weight, only because you wont be eating as much. its 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast same for lunch and then something light for dinner.
better off just to add more fruit abnd veggies to the diet and cut out bad carbs and fat

By my personal experience I tried a lot of fruits to loose weight, of all the fruits I advice to take lemon juice with hot water without salt and sugar. I prefer to take one full glass of lemon juice daily in the morning i got some results but you must not miss it a day.

if you get the prinipals of losing weight... fruit wont cut it. It'll give you a few vitamins, nothing substantial. Its food in, calories out(excersize). only way for weight loss and to maintain health.
dont forget, fruit has a lot of sugars, granted its natural sugars.. but if you dont work off the sugars in fruit, it turns to fat. Just as regular white or brown sugars.
We need our fruit and veggies, its a part of a healthy life, just have to limit the sweeter fruits or use them for energy to burn when going for walks or doing housework. just like with any food, ome are better than others. more color to the veggie or fruit the better. thats why oranges are one of the better. kumquats one of the best as you eat the skin too which has healthy oils. citrus oil is great for the skin. either ingested or applied to the skin

Is citrus oil from the rind or seeds or both? When I see "orange oil" listed on ingredients, I imagine a bunch of seeds and the whole mortar and pestle thing going on. How can you extract oil from rind?
