SPROUTED!

3 weeks ago on friday... I planted well over 20 key lime seeds. some sprouted and died. well... now there are ton more... they are looking bigger, stronger, better root system.

One seed has actually sprouted FOUR plants! Joys of polyembronic seeds! most seeds have only spouted one baby plant, while there are several with 2-3 seedlings... just one wiht 4 and the best thing... its those seedlings are just the most strong and healthy looking.

So... looks like in 2-3 years time... I'll have key limes by the basketfull!!!! I would highly recomend someone to try starting key limesfrom seed. Its truly fun and exciting. They will grow true from seed and in some cases, ppl have even gotten fruits within 18 months of planting the seeds. I wont hold my breath, I'll just just assume I'll have fruit at the 2-3 year mark.

This really is my first attempt and entery into the citrus world. All is soooo exciting!

Well, my little seedlings are better planted, in a nice heated area right by a window. We just got a freak snow storm so no bright sun or lights... so thankfully I had the money to run grab the new pots, lights and heaters.

I really am excited by these seedlings. they are just so cute and little. Once they get a little bigger I'll post a link to pictures. I'm sure you'll all get just as excited! and possibly want to start your own key limes :)

Ok.. I'm totally crazy. I just purchased several key limes (the fruit, not the tree) just for the seeds, so I can plant more to see what I can get to grow. I want to get as many seedlings going as I can, that way I can be sure to get amazingly strong trees in the long run. Plus, I have a friend willin to buy several of my seedlings for 5 dollars a piece! Not bad, eh? concidering a bag of key limes cost me 3 dollars and I get about 15 limes per bag.... 3-5 mature seeds per lime... I could make great money this way... just if I could find enough ppl wanting a key lime
