I was recently reading up on Melanose, a fungal infection which affects citrus trees. It was saying that "scabbed fruit rind" is one of the telltale signs. Does this mean the dry, purplish spots we see on fruit at the market? Gee, if so, that means I have bought diseased fruit?!?

scabbed fruit rind could be caused from a zillion things... a bird taking a bite... a bug, a branch or even human contact damaging the skin. once damaged a scab usually forms... its way of trying to heal.

I've yet to ever buy citrus fruits with any scabing... actually I dont think I have ever seen any scabs on citrus ever, only other fruit types
